Assistant Instructor: Paul Miller
SiSuk Paul was born in 1971 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and has lived in Hillsborough, New Jersey since 1977. As a child, Paul was always intrigued by the martial arts, especially Shaolin Kung-Fu. He was first exposed to the martial arts by his grandfather who was taught martial arts in the army and abroad during WWII. During the course of his life Paul tried a few different martial arts including tae kwon do and ryu kyu kenpo, but nothing ever felt quite right to him. He rededicated himself to martial arts training later in life after getting married and becoming a father. He found the Phoenix Academy and began training again in January 2006. He was instantly drawn to Phoenix Academy because of the Southern Shaolin curriculum which he had been so passionate about from an early age.
Training at the Phoenix Academy was, and continues to be, a dream come true for SiSuk. His appreciation for the depth, tradition and value of Shaolin Kung-Fu only grows stronger the longer he trains. SiSuk Paul participated in and passed the assistant instructor’s training program at Phoenix Academy in the Spring of 2010 and earned the title SiHing. He earned his 1st Degree Black Sash and the title of SiSuk, as a full fledged assistant instructor, in June 2010.
Paul firmly believes and is passionate about the value of Shaolin Kung-Fu and all the benefits that it promotes, most importantly health of mind and body. SiSuk is particularly concerned with promoting the Phoenix Academy as a family orientated Kung-Fu school where parents, children and siblings are encouraged to learn and train together in a fun and safe environment and stresses the importance of students helping each other succeed and overcome obstacles together.
SiSuk is guided by his faith and sees the Christian morals promoted by the Phoenix Academy as complementary to the principles and philosophy of Shaolin Kung-Fu. SiSuk Paul is passionate about teaching Kung-Fu at the Phoenix Academy and currently teaches class with SiSuk Michael Matlack while continuing to train toward his 2nd Degree Black Sash.
